Larry is a qualified young man , his father was a mechanic , mother a teacher, Larry gets a strange offer to join a well paid job whose work requirement he would be told only if he signed and joined the group in antarctica surrounded by arctic ocean , the bond to stay there for next ten years , the secretiveness makes him suspicious, but the interviewer tells him illegal things can be done locally , for that one does not go to antarctica, larry discusses the matter with his girl friend who advises it is apparently a hansomely paid job he should accept, on his flight the only passenger on the plane he is told by the pilot that his predecessors had abandoned the job abd run away, finding it rather odd why they should take the emergency boat , the two predecessors both choosing the same method , how far they could have sailed in the ocean, they could have returned and cancelled the agreement instead, he is met by foster the only manager on the island who takes him to the aluminium chrome building where larry has to stay
