-he  stood  watching  intently  out  of  his  office  window  the  river  walk where  just  one  or  two  figures  were  visible  , benches  arranged     by  the  road  were  all  covered  with  snow,  stark  trees  were  leafless  and  no  bird  sat in them , beyond  the  walk  the  sea  seemed  to  have  a  tug  moving  slowly riding  the  waves, , all  cruis  trips  and  offices  of  them  were  shut  for  in this  bad  weather  nobody  went  anywhere  out, , his  reverie  was  broken  with  the  entry  of  a  rascally  looking man  who  asked  him why  he  did  not  pay  the  promised  amount  on time
