all the  neighbours  in  their  mind"s  eye  had  an image  etched  of  the  new  bride  of  shafiq  ahmed  , the  son of    widow  hajer  bibi  who  had  raised  him since he  was  two, alone, robinah  the  youngest  of  the  six  sisters  was  an orphaned  child , must  be  a  frightened  doe , eyes  full  of  thick fat  tears,  but  suddenly  the  bride"s   thundering  loud  clear  voice  , showing  her  power  of  strong  lungs shattered  the  silence  and  peace  of  all

  • Such  attitude  changed  him completely

  • Has  opened  your  eyes
  • For  long  the  lane  was  in fearful dark
  • A  tiny  lamp at  your  doorstep illuminated  it
  • How  you  snapped  off  all ties
  • Home  became  a  sand  dune  of  sorts

  • Unable  to  hold  back  their   tears  and  feelings
  • Speak not of  me to  any  strangers
  • Lest  my  story  is  discoloured
  • Speak not  of  me  to  story  writers
  • Perhaps, they  would  break down  shattered
  • Speak not  of  me  to spring  blossoms  this  season
  • You  shall be  pulled  down into  the  deep
  • Speak  not  of  me  to  the  sea  shores
  • But  when you  meet  him tell him all

husnah   -an intelligent  and  educated  young  woman   feels  her  relatives, neighbours, veterans, elders  and  the  entire  set  up  is answerable  to  her, when she  comes  home  late    she  has  to  pass  first  a  christian   lady  -proprietor  of  a  STD  booth  , universal  auntie    of  the  whole  locality  curious    she  must  be  told  why  she  was  late
second  a  hindu  family  , all  of  the  joint  family  of  three  generations  at  least  consisting  of  more  than ten   members  lounged  on the  street  on their  charpoys, chairs  and  folding  beds  watching  the  comings  and  goings  of  others
third sadar  family  whom she  thought  looked  always   so  pale  , noone  ever   took up  a  job  how  they  managed  their  home  affairs  was  a  puzzle  to  husnah
fourth  a  muslim woman  whom she  called  Inspector     for  her  remarkable  observational  prowess  all  were  so  narrow  minded  husnah  wanted  to  be  free  of  all  social  ties

husnah is  a  modern educated  woman   aspiring  to  touch the  skies  , yet  most  practical  and  worldly  wise, not  interested  in marriage  just  for  the  sake  of  getting  married  to  attach  a  tag  of  Married   to  herself , she  needs  a  right  life  partner , compatible, thoughtful, caring  and  educated   person   with  whom she  could  share  her  views
