....7 July 1946 Howard  crashed his aircraft  taking off from California,  the fuel tank was leaking, he failed to emergency land in the Los angels  golf club field  and crashed in the surrounding  hills, there was a residential colony  on the slopes and an army officer picked Howard up from the accident site
