sonnet

Thou blind fool, Love, what dost thou to mine eyes,That they behold, and see not what they see? They know what beauty is, see where it lies,Yet what the best is take the worst to be.If eyes corrupt by over-partial looksBe anchor'd in the bay where all men ride,Why of eyes' falsehood hast thou forged hooks,Whereto the judgment of my heart is tied? Why should my heart think that a several plotWhich my heart knows the wide world's common place?Or mine eyes seeing this, say this is not,To put fair truth upon so foul a face?In things right true my heart and eyes have erred,And to this false plague are they now transferr'd.

jodha bai

Jodha Bai's Palace
Jodha Bai's palace is the largest and most important part of Imperial Harem, having all facilities, provisions and safeguards. The name Jodha Bai palace is a misnomer in itself. It is most widely accepted that the building was for Raniwas or Zenani-Dyodhi. The palace building consists of a rectangular block measuring 231'8"x215' in dimension, with a single magnificent gateway on eastern side, which was protected by guard rooms, having triangular ceiling and other apartments. Several Hindu motifs have been used in the building, which confirms that occupant of the building was a Hindu lady. Hindu motifs like hams (swan), parrot, elephants, lotus, srivatsa mark, ghant mala etc are decorated in the interior. The colonnaded dalan contains curvilinear square pillars with beautiful moldings and extremely graceful brackets. The western suite, which serves the purpose of temple, contains beautiful curvilinear pillars with brackets. This suite contains vedikas and several Hindu motifs. The super structure of the building is comprises of chhatris, chhaparkhats with eight pillars, semi circular domes and triangular khaprel roofs, The corner domes and khaprel roofs bears traces of arabesque designs in glazed tiles.

my name

If thy soul cheque thee that I come so near,Swear to thy blind soul that I was thy 'Will,'And will, thy soul knows, is admitted there; Thus far for love my love-suit, sweet, fulfil.'Will' will fulfil the treasure of thy love,Ay, fill it full with wills, and my will one.In things of great receipt with ease we proveAmong a number one is reckon'd none:Then in the number let me pass untold,Though in thy stores' account I one must be;For nothing hold me, so it please thee holdThat nothing me, a something sweet to thee:Make but my name thy love, and love that still,And then thou lovest me, for my name is 'Will

think all but one

Whoever hath her wish, thou hast thy 'Will,'And 'Will' to boot, and 'Will' in overplus;More than enough am I that vex thee still,To thy sweet will making addition thus.Wilt thou, whose will is large and spacious,Not once vouchsafe to hide my will in thine?Shall will in others seem right gracious,And in my will no fair acceptance shine? The sea all water, yet receives rain stillAnd in abundance addeth to his store; So thou, being rich in 'Will,' add to thy 'Will'One will of mine, to make thy large 'Will' more.Let no unkind, no fair beseechers kill;Think all but one, and me in that one 'Will.'

confession

So, now I have confess'd that he is thine,And I myself am mortgaged to thy will,Myself I'll forfeit, so that other mineThou wilt restore, to be my comfort still:But thou wilt not, nor he will not be free,For thou art covetous and he is kind;He learn'd but surety-like to write for meUnder that bond that him as fast doth bind. The statute of thy beauty thou wilt take,Thou usurer, that put'st forth all to use,And sue a friend came debtor for my sake;So him I lose through my unkind abuse.Him have I lost; thou hast both him and me:He pays the whole, and yet am I not free.

my heart

Beshrew that heart that makes my heart to groanFor that deep wound it gives my friend and me!Is't not enough to torture me alone,But slave to slavery my sweet'st friend must be?Me from myself thy cruel eye hath taken,And my next self thou harder hast engross'd:Of him, myself, and thee, I am forsaken;A torment thrice threefold thus to be cross'd.Prison my heart in thy steel bosom's ward,But then my friend's heart let my poor heart bail;Whoe'er keeps me, let my heart be his guard;Thou canst not then use rigor in my gaol:And yet thou wilt; for I, being pent in thee,Perforce am thine, and all that is in me.

beauty

Thine eyes I love, and they, as pitying me,Knowing thy heart torments me with disdain,Have put on black and loving mourners be,Looking with pretty ruth upon my pain. And truly not the morning sun of heavenBetter becomes the grey cheeks of the east,Nor that full star that ushers in the evenDoth half that glory to the sober west,As those two mourning eyes become thy face:O, let it then as well beseem thy heartTo mourn for me, since mourning doth thee grace,And suit thy pity like in every part. Then will I swear beauty herself is blackAnd all they foul that thy complexion lack.

neem tree

Life is more bitter than the neem tree that is growing taller in my garden, people ask for its leaves for various purposes--
some years ago i stood at my main gate watching people walking on the gravel. A small six year old girl in torn tatters witha smiling face selling neem datun asked me to buy one. She was an orphan whose parents left a mud hut for her and her siblings. She grew up soon into a very attractive dark dusty young woman. She fell in love and was married off to her love who was a drunkard, he threw the money away on gambling where as she worked as domestic helping hand in the locality. soon she got tired of the man , gave birth to a son and divorced her husband. This Lohri i saw her sitting talking to my relatives, i asked her how she was doing, she was not recognizable by now, looking soo rich happy healthy. she had remarried, gave birth to a second son. this new husband was nicer. Today i woke up with the news Shalu was dead, yesterday she had hanged herself to death.

my mistress

My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun;Coral is far more red than her lips' red;If snow be white, why then her breasts are dun;If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her head.I have seen roses damask'd, red and white,But no such roses see I in her cheeks; And in some perfumes is there more delightThan in the breath that from my mistress reeks.I love to hear her speak, yet well I knowThat music hath a far more pleasing sound;I grant I never saw a goddess go;My mistress, when she walks, treads on the ground:And yet, by heaven, I think my love as rareAs any she belied with false compare.

despised

The expense of spirit in a waste of shameIs lust in action; and till action, lustIs perjured, murderous, bloody, full of blame,Savage, extreme, rude, cruel, not to trust,Enjoy'd no sooner but despised straight,Past reason hunted, and no sooner hadPast reason hated, as a swallow'd baitOn purpose laid to make the taker mad;Mad in pursuit and in possession so;Had, having, and in quest to have, extreme;A bliss in proof, and proved, a very woe; Before, a joy proposed; behind, a dream. All this the world well knows; yet none knows wellTo shun the heaven that leads men to this hell.

music

How oft, when thou, my music, music play'st,Upon that blessed wood whose motion soundsWith thy sweet fingers, when thou gently sway'stThe wiry concord that mine ear confounds,Do I envy those jacks that nimble leapTo kiss the tender inward of thy hand,Whilst my poor lips, which should that harvest reap,At the wood's boldness by thee blushing stand! To be so tickled, they would change their stateAnd situation with those dancing chips,O'er whom thy fingers walk with gentle gait,Making dead wood more blest than living lips.Since saucy jacks so happy are in this,Give them thy fingers, me thy lips to kiss.

black --fair beauty

In the old age black was not counted fair,Or if it were, it bore not beauty's name; But now is black beauty's successive heir,And beauty slander'd with a bastard shame:For since each hand hath put on nature's power,Fairing the foul with art's false borrow'd face,Sweet beauty hath no name, no holy bower,But is profaned, if not lives in disgrace. Therefore my mistress' brows are raven black,Her eyes so suited, and they mourners seemAt such who, not born fair, no beauty lack,Slandering creation with a false esteem:Yet so they mourn, becoming of their woe,That every tongue says beauty should look so.

time"s fickle glass

O thou, my lovely boy, who in thy powerDost hold Time's fickle glass, his sickle, hour;Who hast by waning grown, and therein show'stThy lovers withering as thy sweet self grow'st;If Nature, sovereign mistress over wrack,As thou goest onwards, still will pluck thee back,She keeps thee to this purpose, that her skillMay time disgrace and wretched minutes kill.Yet fear her, O thou minion of her pleasure! She may detain, but not still keep, her treasure:Her audit, though delay'd, answer'd must be,And her quietus is to render thee.
