joe  introduced  himself  to  the  detectives  on duty  that  he  was  himself  a  detective  working  on a  project  undercover, he  gave  some  five  thousand  dollars  threatening  them to  leave, not  liking  the  picture  the  hero  of  the  story  tried  to  defend the  woman ferry, pulling  her  out  of  the  dirty scene,  when joe  the  undercover  taking  aim fires  at  him , he  too  fires  back  and  sees  joe  falling  down dead
